MY DIY | Ribbon Necklace

11.14.2012

Yesterday I was ogling over a tulle skirt, so decided to find a more wearable to incorporate the look into an everyday outfit (although I could be persuaded to wear a tutu daily). With a couple spools of Midori's woven metallic ribbon, I created a whimsical necklace in no time.

What you need:
Wire Thread
Needle
Clasp
Jump rings
Optional chain

What to do:
1. Thread your needle with a piece of wire that is the desired length of your necklace
2. Then wrap the excess end around the wire, leaving a little loop at the top
3. Tie the other end of the wire to a jump ring
4. Start folding your ribbon accordion style onto the needle
5. Start with smaller folds, as you move towards the middle, make the folds larger, then smaller again towards the other end
6. Use both spools of ribbon, add a third for a longer necklace,
Tip: give the necklace more volume by twisting the folds around the wire, so they don't lay flat
7. Add jump rings onto the wire loop at the end, and add the clasp with a jewelry pliers
OR add a piece of chain to the jump rings to make the necklace longer
