[InStyle DIY] Denim

5.29.2011

Happy Memorial Day all! I am all home in WI for the weekend, but thought I would pop on the site to share a couple DIY projects I did for InStyle's huge and beyond helpful Denim story in the June Issue. I love how the Dries inspired jeans turned out, and was thinking how perfect the technique would look on a jean mini skirt! Or a Jean shirt:  A Pair and a Spare tried it here
What are you all making over the long weekend??

[as seen on] A Beautiful Mess

Recently the absolutely amazing site A Beautiful Mess asked me to do a DIY for them, and I jumped at the chance to recreate this lovely pleated necklace with a scarf I had laying around. You can find the full step-by-step here

[DIY Love] A Pair and a Spare

5.16.2011
BEYOND blown away by this super fun, and super flattering dress and skirt that Geneva from A Pair and a Spare made from...you would never guess...RUGS! It is so great to see people taking the everyday item and reinventing it into something Ab Fab!
I am swamped at the moment with a couple huge projects, but promise to post one of my DIYs soon!
In the mean time, hear me talk DIY on the radio show Sew and Tell here!

[DIY event] ReadyMade

5.15.2011
Last week I went to a fantastic party for ReadyMade Magazine and hung out with the lovely Kirsten from Studs and Pearls (thanks for the pics) and Caitlin, who interviewed us for ReadyMade (read here!). I sported some DIY on my wrist and neckline, while Kirsten wore a new project she will surely post on her site soon!
Sidenote: My hair is officially out of control long, I think it may just be time for a cut!

One more painted AA clutch made by my girl crush, her style is stellar and her blog is a must see.

[DIY love] Stylecaster

5.09.2011

Tonight I met up with the loveliest Grace from Stripes and Sequins and she pointed me into the direction of Stylecaster's Hardcord DIY series. As you my know, I am a huge fan of taking the everyday item and turning them into fashion, and Daniela Jacobs does just that. Her bead and safety pin necklace blows. my. mind.  I urge you to head over and check more of her creations!

[my outfit] pretty woman dress

5.08.2011
This week I jetted (well trained) off to the lovely Jersey shore for a friends wedding. Head-to-toe this may be the least expensive outfit I've ever worn, yet I felt like a million bucks!

To start, I carried at clutch I bought for $1 at my hometown second hand store, and covered it with feather trim from M&J Trimming (featured in this article).
My Pretty Woman dress is also from the same second hand store, purchased on a day where from 4-6pm you can fill a grocery bag of clothes for $5...yeah you heard right...$5. Got to love the midwest.
Lastly, I am obsessed with these wedges I bought with a gift card from Aldo. They go with everything, give you a good lift, and were comfortable enough to dance the night away!

The wedding was also decked out in DIY, all the brides friends chipped in to made the alter and the center pieces. Click for a pic after the jump.

[inspiration] Glitter Wedges

One of my readers drew my attention to these AMAZING wedges on le blog de Betty and I think they are a must make! I totally think my Dolce & Gabbana tutorial would do just the trick!

[DIY Love] Straight of Grain

Pillows from Straight of Grain

The other day I received a fantastic email from a reader about a DIY they did to spruce up their place with pillows made from fabric scraps. I love the outcome, def a million GF points! I've done a couple home improvements here and here, but mostly stick to fashion DIY's...what you guys think, more home projects???

[DIY love] Chic Steals & A Reason to be Fabulous

5.01.2011
I spotted two DIYs this weekend that I went crazy for! First was Chic Steal's spot on Miu Miu shoe interpretation, and second was a brilliant way to repurpose your broaches by A Reason to be Fabulous.
And if you havn't yet, check out the recent ReadyMade article about myself, Honestly...WTF and Stud and Pearls!
