[DIY] Reader's Feather Clutches

3.31.2011

I was BEYOND excited when I saw that a couple of lovely ladies tried out my Feather Duster Clutch DIY from the March issue of InStyle.  Put a grin on my face to see people reading the column, creating their own and having them turn out amazing!
What a happy way to go into my Friday.
What are you all making this weekend?

[diy] old school

3.30.2011
After seeing two of my fave DIYers, ...Love Maegan and Honestly...WTF, take it old school in recent projects, I could not help but pick up some Lester Lace (or gimp) when I was at Blick Art the other day. I love the idea of reviving this look for the summer! Swimsuit designer Brette Sandler, sold the arm candy (above)last Summer, which could be an uber chic look with a chunky gold watch and a few bangles.
What do you think, bring the trend back or leave it on the playground?

Decided to start off the week with a few of my favorite DIYs floating around the blogosphere! I am itching for some warm weather right now, and all these projects scream Springtime.  I'm daydreaming of breezy white dresses, colorful sunglasses, and an arm full of bright bangles.

[inspired by] Vionnet

3.24.2011

After seeing countless starlets rocking Vionnet on the red carpet, I clicked through the Spring 2010 line on Style.com and decided it may be the most DIY inspiring collection yet. Feathers, weaving, rope belts, gold collars, star headbands...all projects just waiting to be done. I am also crazy for double cuffs that would make Wonder Woman swoon.

What DIY projects do you have planned this weekend??

3 Designers, 3 DIYS!

3.22.2011

To celebrate the whirlwind of style during Fall 2011 Fashion week,  two of my favorite DIY bloggers and I decided to pick one of our favorite looks from the runway and recreate!  I ogled over the oxfords at Dolce & Gabbana and made my own metallic pair (below), Geneva from A Pair and a Spare bedeked her mini a al Balmain (click for tutorial), and the lovely Lauren and Erica of Honestly...WTF fancied the frills at Fendi (click for tutorial).
3 Designers, 3 DIYs!

[I Spy] Dolce & Gabbana Metallic Oxfords

3.21.2011
Anyone who knows me, knows that my oxford collection is quite large. I was beyond elated when I saw one after another walk down the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 runway.  From spotted styles to metallic, a glittery number caught my eye, and you know what that means: DIY!

What you need to get started: A pair of Oxfords (mine are from Wanted Shoes), Mod Podge, and Sliver Glitter (Martha Stewart's White Gold Glitter worked perfect), paint brush and masking tape.

Using the masking tape, cover all areas you do not want to be metallic.
Next create a paste by mixing equal parts glitter and Mod Podge.
Paint a thick layer on to your shoes.
Let dry for a hour, then fill in any areas not completely covered.

After the glitter paste is dry, go over it one more time with just Mod Podge so glitter does not fly off your feet as you walk. Let dry another couple hours before wearing.

There you have it!

[Blog Love] Legally Crafty

3.14.2011

I am crazy about this fringe bag that Savannah from Legally Crafty emailed to me. You will NEVER guess what she used as the base of the purse. SO clever and resourceful. Turns out I am on a bit of a fringe binge recently!

[InStyle DIY] Feather covered clutch

3.10.2011

One of my favorite things about DIY is that you can find inspiration everywhere. I love to wander through the hardware store or dollar stores and brainstorm ways to reinvent everyday items. When I came across this feather duster, I knew it was a project in the making!

If you love this DIY idea email letters@instylemag.com and let them know,
OR if you try a project email InStyle a picture and it could appear in the next issue!!!

If you are just tuning in, you can find all my DIY projects for InStyle here!

[DIY] Fringe

3.08.2011
Remember a bit back when I was ogling that amazing fringe jacket at the IFB conference...WELL, I decided to translate the look to a skirt!  I lined the front with layers of fringe trim that I bought at M&J Trimming, here is the step-by-step:

1. Cut strips of fringe the length of the front of the skirt (use a skirt without stretch)
2. Arrange fringe on the skirt to determine number of rows needed.
3. Using a glue gun, glue top of fringe trim to skirt starting from the bottom of the skirt, working up.
4. Let dry.

I can't wait to get my shimmy on in this little number!

[inspiration] We're Obsessed

3.02.2011

Browsing InStyle.com for inspiration, I could not help but to get stuck on the "We're Obsessed" section. Click after click I spotted lavish items, and I could not help but think, why not do-it-yourself??? (and for a fraction of the price). Remember the fringe tank I made not too long ago, HOW amazing would it be if you replaced the fringe with feathers?
