| Kanye image from MTV Style |
Over the years, the style at the VMA has gotten progessively crazier - Stuffed animal purses and meat dresses just to name a few moments. I don't often take my fashion cues from the evening, but died a little over Kanye's ombre denim shirt.
The fade from dark to light turn an everyday jean top, into shirt worth talking about.
The final look is prefect to wear over a short dress instead of a cardigan,
or button up and pair with a bright mini skirt.
Supplies: Shirt from H&M, Brilliant Blue iDye, Navy blue fabric dye and plastic gloves (bucket optional)

Steps after the break!
I just used my sink, but you can use a bucket for easier clean up.
First dissolve the Brilliant Blue in a full sink of water.
Next dip half your denim shirt into the dye, making sure you have a straight line across the chest. Let the shirt soak in the dye for 10 minutes.
Wash out the dye.
Let your shirt dry to make sure you achieved the desired color. If not, re-dip in dye.
Next fill up your sink with water and dissolve the navy blue dye.
Dip half of the area you already dyed into the navy blue, and let sit for 10 min.
Let dry!

i must try this! great post, thanks for sharing!

Love this shirt. What do I wear it with? Show me the complete outfit.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic, Jenni!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this look but you're so lucky it didn't stain your sink. I once dyed my curtain panels with tea bags in the bathtub & it stained the entire tub. Not even bleach got it out although a mr. clean magic eraser finally did the trick. Hubby was not too happy with me that day!
ReplyDeleteawesome!
ReplyDeletethis is super! i can't wait to try it. hope you don't mind that i am re-posting it on my bloggity blog, let me know if you do ; )

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have some questions.
The iDye you use, is that the machine iDye? And can it be used just for hand dying?
also the iDye instructions say to dissolve the dye in boiling water first etc. etc. Could you tell me a bit more about the methods you used. You just dissolved them in the sink?
Thank you in advance!
And the iDye instructions also say you have to add salt, did you also do this?
ReplyDeletethus, a short more detailed description would help me a lot haha.
thank you!
Love the DIY ombre top! Such a clever way to add flair to a denim shirt!
ReplyDeleteReally can't wait to try it!

I love dying clothing and have had my share of experiences with it, if you want the ombre colors to blend even more, then get the fabric we before it goes into the dye, but you still want to let it dry between colors so you know you are getting the effect you want
ReplyDeleteCant wait to use this!
Love this! It would also be great on a mini or your favorite pair of skinnies!
