[trim necklace]

11.21.2010
After a hectic past week, my favorite thing about this DIY is how simple it is to create a statement piece that will jazz up any basic outfit. I was perusing the fringes at M&J Trimming when I stumbled across this amazing beaded trim, and immediately knew I wanted to make a necklace out of it.
With a little glue and a couple knots, I was able to add a finishing touch to this shopping outfit!

What you need:
1/2 yard of beaded trim
multipurpose glue
1 yard of ribbon (can be matching or not, be creative!)
  • Lay the trim down and bring both ends so they meet in the middle. Glue the doubled up trim together. (this fills in the gaps between bread stings and creates a loop on each end)
  • Once the glue is dry, thread ribbon though the loops and knot.
  • To make the necklace length adjustable, cut ribbon in the middle and tie in a bow as shown.
Note: A couple of my readers pointed out that Erica from the amazing blog Ps - I made this... did this project here. I guess DIY minds think alike!  One reason I love DIY is bc it is all about finding inspiration and making it your own. If you have a new spin on the look send it to me, I would love to share and spread the DIY love :)

    1. this was taken from P.S.-I made this's book- which came out in September-
I think you should credit her.....
You shouldn't take ideas of others and say they are your own.
she just featured this on TV as well

    3. The amazing thing about DIY is how you can get inspiration from anywhere and make it your own. I originally got this idea from this image I LOVE: http://ispyadiy.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/p1100028.jpg
But if you sent me a URL I would be more then happy to link to Erica's version of the project. Thanks!

    4. I did a similar DIY project, but made a belt instead! http://required2beinspired.blogspot.com/2010/10/beaded-tassel-belt-diy.html
I have a bit of the trim left over tho, so maybe I should use it for a necklace!

    5. Oh and I should add...isn't is such a bummer when a bunch of people like to point out that your idea wasn't sooo original afterall...I think your blog and ideas are great...and I've done a lot of DIY projects that I've later found similar ones on other websites...but the thing is we're all reading fashion magazines, and seeing the same images...so our source for our ideas is often the same...sometimes our interpretation is a bit different, but often it can be quite similar to someone elses....but that doesn't make us any less creative...and it's not like you meant to copy anyone...I know that when I have a DIY idea, I don't search the web to see if someones already done it...if it wasn't on a blog/website/magazine/book that I read then the idea was an original for me. I don't know if that makes sence...but I just wanted you to know that I get it...and totally don't think you're a copy cat!

    7. I love this necklace, Jenni. And I agree with Natasha. I don't know why this anonymous person has to be so accusatory! It's DIY'ing! It's fun! There's room for everyone to be creative in their own way. Let's not lose sight of that, anonymous.
